Rosen College of Hospitality Management’s Cabaret & Cabernet, 2017
Cabaret & Cabernet was a fundraising event that was solely planned by students under the guidance of Ron Logan, a Disney legend. The overarching theme to the event was a Steampunk-inspired entertainment event with lots and lots of wine.
For this project, I was assigned Team Lead of Entertainment and was responsible for curating the entertainment acts. I worked with a team for decorations and prop creation for each act. I personally hired and contracted an escape room company, a magician, 3 student performers, a hula hoop dancer, and a local youth rock band. I was their point of contact through the entire project and met each of them individually to walk the campus and explain their role in the event. On day of, I coordinated with each group to ensure on-time performances.
The event drew more than 300 guests, many of whom had never known about the Rosen College of Hospitality Management. The exposure alone for the college was invaluable.
This was my first experience leading a team while having decision making authority over an event. There was absolutely no pressure at all and I was not spending 12 hours a day on campus to ensure the event was successful.
In the end we raised a few thousand dollars, but the experience and exposure we received was more valuable than the funds we raised.
