My Projects

Much of the work you see here are assignments from my college degree programs. While it may be unrefined, it’s the ideas that truly standout.

While my drawing skills still need practice, I have a talent for creating unique and meaningful concepts.

The works you see here are an attempt to bring those ideas to life.

Various Design Posters

Below are a few of the posters I have been tasked with creating for assignments. From advertisements, to recreating iconic design, and exercising creativity, these posters are where I learned much of the Adobe suite.

AppleCare One Commercial

One of my assignments asked me to create a 10 second advertisement for any brand. I also had to write a short creative brief alongside the storyboards. While I was looking for inspiration for this assignment, my cat Tucker pattered over and rubbed his face on the corner of my laptop, catching his lip on it. And suddenly the idea was born.

The commercial begins with a white background and a red apple. Purring is heard off screen. Suddenly, a black cat appears from the right side of the frame. It approaches the red apple and takes a sniff. Deciding it could be tasty, the cat takes a bite from the apple, leaving a crescent shaped hole. The cat then saunters off behind the apple, purring from enjoyment over its snack, and disappears off the left side of the frame. The Apple Mac startup chime plays and the text “Apple Care One” and “Plans starting at $12.99/month” appear above and below the apple.

When I find the time, I will be returning to the storyboards for this assignment to recreate them digitally. This is an example of where my unrefined drawing skills really show.

I enjoyed this concept and look forward to developing it further.

The Pixar Pitch - “One Brave Step”

For this assignment, I was challenged to create a storyboard that could be presented to Pixar as a new animation project.

I obsessed over this storyboard in regards to the drawing because I knew that it had to be something special. I took time to practice my drawing here by tracing trees, animals, and landscapes. After practicing a bit, I took to illustrator and started creating. While this concept is still unrefined, I would like to return to it one day and fill in a few scenes.

The story follows a young fox who moves to a new area and whats to start exploring his new home. As he ventures through, he comes to a fork in the path. One path was ominous while the other free of worry. He took the easy path. But as it turns out, the easy path is not always the correct path. He had to fight his way through and return to the crossroads. He takes the path less traveled, discovering a new companion along the way. Eventually, he made it through the other side of the forest.

This is the first project where I used a Wacom drawing pad connected to illustrator. What a difference this made in my ability to draw a straight line! I really enjoyed the the digital drawing aspect of this project. Being able to look at a picture of a cat and an anthropomorphic fox on screen while drawing it on the Wacom made them actually look proper. I discovered that I greatly preferred this over pen and paper.

Land of Lore Theme Park

For this assignment, I was given creative freedom to build an entirely new experience. As I have been working in theme parks from the beginning of my career, my mind was already set on the type of experience. At this time, I had become very interested in smaller parks that integrated a single overarching story. I was also listening to a lot of sci-fi podcasts.

Thus, Land of Lore: The Witching Hour was born.

Land of Lore is an experience that immerses guests into an environment that has been carefully constructed to ensure ‘suspension of disbelief’. The park has mysterious origins and is loosely based on real historical events. Visitors explore the village but soon discover from talking to the the locals that something is not as it seems. They begin to unravel the mysteries and investigate the activity. Guests can choose their own adventure in the park. They can decide to stay naive and appreciate the culture and atmosphere, or they can dive further into the clues and uncover the truth behind the true purpose of this village.

This was a really enjoyable concept to create. It was also my first time using the SketchUp software. While I did not have the time to develop the project further, I think a smaller and more immersive experience built around trained entertainers and a ‘choose your own adventure’ concept could be a very successful business idea. Additionally, the integrated story could be switched out bi-annually, giving the park a refresh without changing the overall layout or design. My inspiration came from the Salem Witch Trials, escape rooms, Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, and the Enchanted Forest park in Salem, Oregon.

Rosen College of Hospitality Management’s Cabaret & Cabernet, 2017

Cabaret & Cabernet was a fundraising event that was solely planned by students under the guidance of Ron Logan, a Disney legend. The overarching theme to the event was a Steampunk-inspired entertainment event with lots and lots of wine.

For this project, I was assigned Team Lead of Entertainment and was responsible for curating the entertainment acts. I worked with a team for decorations and prop creation for each act. I personally hired and contracted an escape room company, a magician, 3 student performers, a hula hoop dancer, and a local youth rock band. I was their point of contact through the entire project and met each of them individually to walk the campus and explain their role in the event. On day of, I coordinated with each group to ensure on-time performances.

The event drew more than 300 guests, many of whom had never known about the Rosen College of Hospitality Management. The exposure alone for the college was invaluable.

This was my first experience leading a team while having decision making authority over an event. There was absolutely no pressure at all and I was not spending 12 hours a day on campus to ensure the event was successful.

In the end we raised a few thousand dollars, but the experience and exposure we received was more valuable than the funds we raised.
